Singapore

Apologies for the lack of posts to the blog! I'll be better, I promise.

Guess what? We went to Singapore!

Alan had a conference to attend in Singapore, and we decided to make a little vacay out of it and tack on a few extra days.

Things I learned about Singapore

1. Dew point and humidity - The humidity in Singapore is commonly described as being oppressive. Maybe it was good preparation for the upcoming Brisbane summer (I'll be honest, I'm a little concerned about the humidity and heat that's ahead of us), but Singapore was HOT! For more info, check this out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dew_point

2. Window shopping is cheap! - It helps when nobody sells shoes for gigantic feet like mine. I'm pretty sure I found the only pair of size 11 shoes in the whole city/country at a Crocs store. And they actually aren't ugly!

3. Pandas have to go through quarantine too - I was super excited when I learned that the Singapore Zoo was getting a pair of pandas, and that they would arrive a few days before we did. Unfortunately, Kai Kai and Jia Jia were in quarantine when we visited, and their exhibit is still under construction. If we go back, we'll go check them out.

4. I love air conditioning - See no. 1.

It's photo time! (The Singapore Zoo gets it's own post, partly because it was amazing, and partly because I can't find the pictures on this computer.)

Colourful Little India

Haji Lane - Tiny lane filled with designer shops

The iconic Raffles Hotel

Don't go behind the velvet rope

It's so swanky they leave bottles of champagne lying around

Trying to look like we belong here...

The Birthplace of the Singapore Sling

It sure hit the spot on a hot day...

A little bit pricey for a drink...

Thumbs down for the couple sitting behind us who came all the way to the Long Bar to order a Corona. WTF?

Raffles Hotel Doormen, gravel covered driveway, and a couple in matching tropical print outfits.

Found on a pillar by the marina

Marina Bay Sands light show

Had chocolate fondue at a Haagen-Dazs restaurant. Yup, there was a menu to order your ice cream off of. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a chocolate fondue with mini scoops of ice cream!

At the Mid Autumn Festival Lantern lighting in Chinatown

My husband looking skeptical of my photography abilities

Loved all the lanterns!

Lots of people, and a dragon.

Lanterns down a side street.

Caught the fire show at the Singapore Zoo Night Safari. Intense!

They pulled this guy out of the crowd and tried to light him on fire. Glad it wasn't one of us!
We had a great time in Singapore, it was especially interesting to see the city preparing to host the Formula One race this past weekend. Given how uncomfortable we found the heat to be while wearing shorts and t-shirts, I can't imagine how those race car drivers and pit crew members do what they do!

Countdown Corner

Meghan is coming! - She'll be here in 14 days!

Arrival of the pupperton - 37 days and he's in Sydney!

Collection of the pupperton - 67 days and he's ours!
